Senate House Library, University of London, is proposing to sell copies of the Library’s first four Shakespeare folios. These folios form a critical part of the collection left to the University of London by Sir Louis Sterling in 1956, on condition that they remain permanently in the University Library.

The Bibliographical Society is firmly against the proposed sale.

The Society has started an online petition to urge ‘the Director and Trustees of the Senate House Libraries to reconsider and reverse [their] misguided initiative’. The petition, and a statement outlining the Society’s opposition, can be found here:

The Society requests its members, and other concerned parties, to sign the petition.

Updates can be found on the Society’s Facebook page.
