Following the recent successful launch of the London Book Trades wiki (LBT: https://lbt.bibsoc.org.uk/), the Bibliographical Society is pleased to announce its latest electronic venture. Our goal is to promote the use of MediaWiki software as a suitable vehicle for bibliographical databases. We have created a ‘wiki farm’ on our web server which enables us to host multiple independent wikis using MediaWiki or Semantic MediaWiki software.

The London Book Trades database is now joined by two other wikis running on the wiki farm: a database of over 200 editions of the Satires of the Roman poet Juvenal printed before 1601; and a database of over 2,000 British Library books printed in France between 1501 and 1520. You can read more about the three wikis and this new development at https://bibsoc.org.uk/bibsocs-wikis/. The three BibSoc wikis are joined by David Pearson’s Book Owners Online (BOO) which was part-funded by the Society  but is hosted by University College London. BOO  was developed using Semantic MediaWiki.

The Society would like to hear from researchers who are using MediaWiki for bibliographical databases and are looking for a suitable host for their finished product. We also plan to offer MediaWiki facilities to recipients of the Society’s fellowships and bursaries who would be interested in publishing their results using MediaWiki.
